The Niterói Contemporary Art Museum is a museum located in the city of Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro. Designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer, the MAC has become one of the landmark of the city. The four-storey-structure with 16 meters high and 50 feet in diameter rises from the floor in a single cylindrical base and is inscribed in a square of 2,500 m². An 817-square metre reflecting pool that surrounds the cylindrical base gives lightness to the building. The Museum of Contemporary Art was completed in 1996. The permanent collection are in the museum on a renewable loan from Joao Sattamini, a Brazilian private collector who has amassed one of the biggest private collections of contemporary art in the world.

Zaha Hadid`s buildings already became the contemporary heritage that attracts not only architectural audiences and developers but mainstream media and regular tourists as well. The new mixed-use development comprises four elliptical towers, each rising 15 stories and clad in panels of glass and reflective aluminum. A network of platforms and bridges connects the structures, linking them in one seemingly continuous coil. All together the buildings contain nearly 3.6 million square feet of space—the biggest project yet for the famously big thinker. The great interior courts of the project are a reflection of traditional Chinese architecture where courtyards create an internal world of continuous open spaces.
