The Algarve is the most southern region of continental Portugal. The capital of the Algarve is the city of Faro. There is an international airport and a public university. The Algarve is a popular region for buying a second home and spending a holiday. The first people in the Algarve were traders and Estate stewards that established their colonies on the coasts. The present region of Algarve coincides with the old province of the same name and with the Faro district. The main economic activity in the region is tourism because its beaches and its historical buildings. The Algarve is located on the Atlantic Ocean instead of the Mediterranean. Due to the fresh sea breeze it never gets muggy, but it is even in summer very pleasant. The climate in Algarve is very mild. During the summer the temperature can reach up to 35 degrees Celcius, and with basically no rainfall. In winter the average temperature in the Algarve is 15-18º Celcius.

The Bungle Bungles National Park also called Purnululu National Park is known for the astounding Bungle Bungle range. It features spectacular rounded rock towers alternately striped in orange and black. It is a popular destination for adventurous hikers and four-wheel-drive enthusiasts.
