Castillo de Penarroya is a Moorish castle overlooking the Guadiana river which flows north to Cuidad Real. The castle stands 12km south of Argamasilla de Alba beside the Penarroya reservoir near Lagunas de Ruidera Natural Park. This strength of Muslim origin, was conquered in 1198 by the coaligadas orders of Santiago and assigned San Juan and definitively at your service of San Juan in 1215. Located strategically on a cliff, in which the prey of dam of Penarroya has been constructed, Argamasilla de Alba is known for having an important sight involving Cervantes and Don Quixote
