Pilanesberg National Park in the North West Province, South Africa, offers spectacular landscapes ranging around a central lake. The park borders with the entertainment complex Sun City. It covers some 55 000 hectare, is the fourth largest in southern Africa. This malaria-free park is perched on the eroded vestiges of an alkaline volcanic crater – one of only three such craters in the world. Thanks to an ambitious game translocation programme called Operation Genesis in 1979, involving reserve game-fencing and the re-introduction of many long-vanished species, national park, now has in excess of 7 000 animals including 24 of the larger species.

Antelope Canyon is possibly the most-photographed of northern Arizona’s sandstone slot canyons. The glowing orange and purple colors of the wind- and water-carved, narrow fissures in Antelope Canyon feature in many beautiful images. Antelope Canyon includes two separate, photogenic slot canyon sections, referred to individually as Upper Antelope Canyon or The Crack and Lower Antelope Canyon or The Corkscrew. Upper Antelope Canyon is the most popular and most visited of the two slot canyons. Less narrow and more level than Lower Antelope, making it so much easier to hike. The lower canyon is much more narrow versus the upper canyon and there is no entrance at ground level so visitors must climb down ladders to reach the canyon floor.

Caerlaverock Castle – Discover Scotland

Caerlaverock Castle – Discover Scotland

Share/Bookmark

Caerlaverock Castle is one of Scotland’s great medieval fortresses. Surrounded by a double moat and hundreds of acres of flat marshy willow woods. Caerlaverock was built to control the South-West entrance to Scotland which in early times was the waterway across the Solway Firth. The Maxwell family, who built Caerlaverock, enjoyed peaceful prosperity there until it was besieged in 1300 by Edward I. The castle was partly destroyed in 1357, but repaired by the 1370s. The Maxwells were Scottish lords – and were strangers to the area. However, in around 1220, the Scottish King Alexander II granted this patch of land to the family. Nowadays, Caerlaverock is a ruin and has limited covered areas in the event of rain, but it offers fantastic locations for wedding photography.
