The Shwedagon Pagoda aka the Golden Pagoda is a 99 metres (325 ft) with the perimeter measuring 432.8 metres (1,420 feet) and glittering in gold located in Yangon, Myanmar formerly known as Burma. Myanmar has been called The Land of Gold. This is a country rich in culture, history, sacred sights, scenic wonders and personality. Pagoda is located on Singuttara hill was already an ancient sacred site because of the buried relics of the three previous Buddhas. Legend has it that the Shwedagon Pagoda is 2,500 years old, but archaeologists estimate it was first built by the Mon sometime between the 6th and 10th centuries. Shwedagon Pagoda has 4 entries, some parts are available only for men and monks. In the middle of each side of the building is built an even smaller stupa and around them there are about 64 small stupas. In every corner there is a carved sphinxe of mythical creatures who are half lion and half griffin. Outside stupas were built of four rooms in which are the figures of Buddha. Here believers served sacrificial gifts.
