Oxford University is a unique and historic institution and the oldest university in the England. The legend of Oxford’s founding says that Oxford University was founded in 872 by Alfred the Great, but Oxford has no clear date of foundation. The teaching existed here in some form in 1096 and developed rapidly from 1167, when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris. Nowadays, university cosits of 38 colleges and six permanent private halls. There are more than 21,000 students, including 11,723 undergraduates and 9,327 postgraduates. The University employs over 10,000 people.
