The Accademia Gallery of Venice was born in 1750, when the Venetian Republic decided to give the city an Academy of painters and sculptors. It was one of the first institutions to study art restoration starting in 1777 with Pietro Edwards, and formalised by 1819 as a course. The Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice is one of the great museums of the world and has one of the finest collections of Venetian art. The museum is situated on the south side of the Grand Canal, in the Sestiere Dorsoduro district, at the foot of the Accademia Bridge. It is housed in the former Santa Maria della Carità church and convent complex, partly built by Italian Renaissance architect, Andrea Palladio.

The Island of Burano, in the Venetian lagoon, is made of picturesque canals lined with brightly colored houses, about an hour away from Venice. It is also famous for its artisan lace makers. Visitors can enjoy lunch or a drink and buy some lace from a local artist. Families used to paint their homes in bright colors to designate where their family’s quarters ended and a neighbor’s began, as well as to make their homes more visible from the sea. The typical Burano’s houses are mainly squared-shaped and are divided into two or three floors. At the low ground there is the kitchen, the breakfast nook and the toilet. At the next floors there are the bedrooms.
